Chen outlined at the conference, themed "Empowering Asian and African Women through Education," China's progress and development in education since the founding of New China, especially after the opening-up policy.

China has established the biggest education system in the world, fully realized nine-year free compulsory education and popularized higher education, thus protecting millions of Chinese people's rights to education and empowering women in all social sectors, Chen said.

Chen emphasized in her speech the four concepts of education as a fundamental right; of education as a means to achieving gender equality and empowering women; of the health and social benefits to be gained from investing in women and girls' education; and of the responsibility all state governments and international society bear in promoting gender equality.

All countries should fulfill their commitment to increase investment in education, to promote gender mainstreaming, to raise women's proportion in decision-making, and to strengthen international cooperation. Chen concluded.

The conference founded a network of young student Asian-African  leaders aimed at  promoting gender equality in Asian and African counties.
