The 2014 Symposium on the Third Survey on Chinese Women's Social Status, organized by the Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC), was held in Beijing on November 15–16, 2014.

Since the conclusion of the Third Survey on Chinese Women's Social Status, the annual workshop on national data development and analysis has created a platform over which academics and scholars may exchange ideas. Those who helped build the platform are hopeful which it will lead to advancements and new ways of thinking.

Tan Lin, member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and director of the Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC), expected participants to take full advantage of resources to conduct gender analysis and evaluation of legal policies; deepen the knowledge of Chinese women's development and practical of experiences related to gender equality during the past 20 years; while at the same time pushing forward the social transition of academic achievements and providing reference for creating new legal policies on gender equality at all levels of decision-making.

The symposium consisted of speeches and seminars: At the conference, participants discussed the income gap between men and women; division of labor for housework; relationships in marriage and family life; family power for urban and rural women; changes to and characteristics of gender concepts; employment plans for graduates; and others.

The survey on Chinese women's social status is jointly conducted by the ACWF and the National Bureau of Statistics every ten years. Most recently the survey has been carried out for the third time, providing the most authoritative data resource for information pertaining to Chinese women's social status, research that will be of benefit to people both at home and abroad.
