The Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC) of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Shandong Women's University jointly held a seminar, aiming to promote the process of the rule of law and gender equality, in Jinan, capital of east China's Shandong Province, from January 10 to 11, 2015.

Entitled "Non-governmental Women's Organizations & Elimination of Gender Discrimination and 20th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women," this seminar was held ahead of the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, a significant UN conference held in Beijing in 1995.

Du Jie, deputy director of the WSIC, gave an opening speech, saying that the seminar took President Xi Jinping’s directions on gender equality and used as a guide the important instructions given on women’s initiatives; it would discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by Chinese women in equal exercising of their democratic rights, participation in economic and social development, and in seeing developmental results of the reform and opening up of China. The seminar was also to serve as a platform for providing a reference for work pertaining to law, policy, planning and deployment of the Communist Party of China and the government.

Researcher Ding Juan from the WSIC gave a keynote speech to introduce the background of the Fourth World Conference on Women, the process of eliminating gender discrimination and the developmental trends of the international women's movement. Some experts and scholars from related fields introduced the current state of affairs of the gender discrimination elimination in Shandong Province and shared their experience on the United Nations review meeting held to analyze the report on the elimination of gender discrimination in China and to discuss the "Beijing +20" Asia-Pacific NGO Forum. They also presented an on-site discussion simulating the UN review meeting and recapped the principal takeaways from the meeting.

In addition, workshops were held to discuss how to maximize the role and utility of women research centers, deepen research and strengthen cooperation.
