A symposium on the opportunities and challenges of improving China's maternity insurance system was held in Beijing on July 10.
Tan Lin, member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) said at the symposium that China is coordinating to promote the "Four Comprehensives" strategic blueprint (referring to "comprehensively building a moderately prosperous society, comprehensively deepening reform, comprehensively implementing the rule of law, and comprehensively strengthening Party discipline").
The government has attached great importance to the establishment and perfection of the country's maternity insurance system, added Tan, who also serves as director of the Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC).
At present, the number of women who participate in the insurance scheme is on the increase, as it becomes the most important safeguard for women's employment and reproduction rights.
As more opportunities and challenges arise under the new situation, along with the perfection and implement of maternity insurance system, Tan suggested putting forward more constructive opinions on the issue and discuss solutions.
Experts from the National Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council, the Department of Medical Insurance of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, and other institutes and universities attended the conference to discuss opinions from different perspectives in response to the new opportunities and challenges faced nationwide.
