The Center for Women's Development Studies at Nankai University (NKU) held a conference on October 15 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of China's first batch of women and gender studies courses and training bases.

Tan Lin, vice-chairperson and secretary general of the Chinese Women's Research Society (CWRS), gave a speech at the conference on behalf of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the CWRS.

Tan, who also serves as member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, said that the purpose of setting up the bases was to jointly promote the mainstreaming process of women and gender studies, as well as discipline construction, with a view to improving the development of women's causes and deepening cooperation between the ACWF, CWRS and each base. "Ten years later, many achievements have been obtained at these training bases", Tan added.

The official also called on all researchers in this field to implement the spirit of President Xi Jinping's speeches at the Philosophy and Social Science Forum in Beijing in May and integrate this into women's studies and training activities.

Zhu Guanglei, vice-president of Nankai University, expressed a warm welcome for all participants attending the conference on the occasion of the 97th anniversary of the founding the NKU.

Zhu briefly introduced the women and gender studies base at the NKU and hoped to strengthen cooperation between all bases so as to promote the development of women's research work.

Representatives from Peking University and other institutions of higher learning had in-depth exchanges at the event, with their topics concentrated on the construction of women's disciplines, women and gender education and research, the development of women's studies, gender equality and social development.

Dai Yun, president of Tianjin Women's Federation, and Gao Shawei, director of the Department of Rights and Interests at the ACWF, also attended the conference.
