At the annual meeting of the China Women's Research Society (CWRS) on November 28 in Beijing, Shen Yueyue, president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the CWRS, gave a speech in which she stressed the importance of development and gender equality in the new era.

The gathering was presided over by Tan Lin, member of the Secretariat of the ACWF and vice-president of the CWRS, and featured two parallel programs: the Women's Success Cases Exchange Forum and the Young Scholars Forum.
The meeting was held in the presence of over 300 attendees, mostly consisting of scholars on gender studies and experts on women's development from various fields. The event aimed to encourage participants to share their thoughts on innovation, coordination, openness, and eco-friendly development.
Many attendees also delivered speeches on women's issues, addressing topics such as economic progress, culture, family, politics, law, employment and women's organizations.
Remarks from Shen
In her talk, Shen, who also serves as vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, urged that officials should fully study and implement the key meeting spirits of the 6th Plenary Session of the 18th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and lead women across the country to "closely unite around the CPC Central Committee with President Xi Jinping as the core."
"President Xi has attached great importance to women's progress and has issued a series of fundamental requirements and advanced guidelines to lead women's overall development," noted Shen.
"Officials are encouraged to become fully aware of the need to uphold political integrity, keep in mind the bigger picture, follow the CPC as the core of China's leadership, and act consistently with CPC Central Committee policy," she stressed. Shen also cited what was referred to as the "Four Consciousnesses", namely "consciousnesses of the ideology, the whole, the core and the line."
Meanwhile, officials should contribute their efforts to studying the national laws and State policies on women; explore deeper into Chinese women's research, study and the theoretical system of socialism with Chinese characteristics; and take practical actions to achieve further women's advancement in welcoming the CPC's later meetings, added Shen.
Experts and scholars should insist on their correct political direction whilst also taking a firm stand on their political position, urged Shen.
They are also urged to follow strictly political discipline; continuously improve their academic levels; adhere to the guidance of the Marxist outlook on women; and continue pursuing women-focused studies.
In addition, Shen pointed out the CWRC should strengthen its self-construction and further serve as an innovative women's think tank.
Officials should promote all-round economic political, cultural, social, and ecological progress, dubbed the so-called "Five-in-One Principle"; and also promote the enforcement of a strategic blueprint of the "Four Comprehensives" – namely, a moderately prosperous society, reform, rule of law and Party discipline – put forward by Xi, stressed Shen.
"It is essential to highlight women's issues, especially those opportunities and challenges, under the new era of the economic development," pointed out Shen.
"Scholars and experts should stick to reform and innovation in exploring the study of women's development, as well as those happening in women's federations," stressed the official.
For example, issues such as careers, household relationships, the protection of legal rights and interests, are all important areas, concluded Shen.
