The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held its 6th plenary session of the 11th Executive Committee on February 20 in Beijing, where attendees learned about the Secretariat of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's latest guidelines concerning the organization.

Li Yuanchao, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-President of China, addressed the session. Li urged officials to fully study and act consistently to follow President Xi Jinping's keynote remarks.

Officials were also encouraged to embrace the future success of 19th CPC National Congress, which will soon be held this year; deepen women's federation reforms; and, unite women from the general population to play their "half-of-the-sky" role in building China's all-round, well-off society, Li said.

The session was presided by Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) and president of the ACWF. Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, delivered a work report at the session.

Attendees also included other vice presidents and members of the Secretariat of the ACWF.

In all, 205 members of the ACWF's executive committee convened at the event.

Remarks from Li Yuanchao

Li gave his approval of the initiatives carried out by women's federations throughout 2016.

Uniting people and increasing cohesion have become "primary political tasks" for officials to fulfill their job responsibilities, Li explained.

Officials are encouraged to become fully aware of the need to uphold political integrity, keep in mind the bigger picture, follow the CPC as the core of China's leadership, and act consistently with CPC Central Committee policy, stressed Li, citing what was referred to as the "Four Consciousnesses", namely "consciousnesses of the ideology, the whole, the core and the line."

Moreover, officials should lead and closely unite women around the CPC Central Committee with President Xi as the core; carry out more numerous and better initiatives to benefit people's livelihoods; and, safeguard the legal rights and interests of women and children, Li urged.

Women from the general population are encouraged to develop career-based innovation; contribute efforts in furthering excellence at work; and, play a role in the country's poverty-alleviation campaigns, Li said

Promoting core socialist values among households requires deepening the construction of "civilized families", in terms of harmonious relationships, virtues, and upward-and-honesty oriented "social ethos", Li pointed out.

The federation is urged to carry out reforms sticking to guidelines that highlight advanced ideologies about politics and serve the people; and, act quickly in response to targeted issues, stressed the senior official.

The federation should speed up its construction of online platforms and extend its services at the grassroots level; improve the work scheme of connecting people directly; and, make women from the general population gain a better understanding of the federation's reforms, Li urged.

The senior official also illustrated the significance of maintaining overall strict governance of the CPC at the event.

Li stressed that the federation should enhance its team construction and urged officials from the federation's executive committee to take a lead in fulfilling their job responsibilities.
