Authorities in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, will provide free breast and cervical cancer screening services for 3,000 women from the city's migrant worker population, according to the municipal women's federation.

There are over 4 million migrant workers registered in the system of Guangzhou Human Resources and Social Security Department currently, according to data.

In order to enable more migrant workers to enjoy the achievement of China's reform and opening up, officials have taken measures to develop services and management, motivating their enthusiasm as well as social development, and promoting social justice and harmony.

A survey showed that, since 2009, nearly 90 percent of rural and urban women in Guangzhou have taken up the offer of having screenings for common diseases.

However, a large number of migrant workers have ignored related medical examinations due to their low incomes.

In 2017, the Guangzhou Women and Children's Social Service Center successfully received 2.32 million yuan (U.S.$ 337,000) in funding from the welfare lottery. The free screening services, available since April, are for migrant workers aged between 35-64.

The fund has also been used to publicize related knowledge on cancer prevention.
