A leading Chinese job recruitment website recently released a list of top 10 enterprises that have "grabbed the most attention among women across the country."

The brands singled out for praise by include BMW China, IBM, SAIC Volkswagen, Microsoft, China Merchants Bank, IKEA, China Southern Airlines, HSBC and popular shopping website

Organizers worked with UN Women to come up with the list in accordance with the Guideline on Women's Empowerment. Referees also included experts in the fields of gender equality, corporate social responsibility and HR.

The aim of the list was to award those enterprises which have set a good example of advocating gender equality, said an organizer.

If both men and women have the same or similar job, women on average can only expect 63.4 percent of the salary level compared to their male counterparts, according to the 2017 Global Gender Gap Report issued by the World Economic Forum.

The recruitment website also conducted a survey indicating that female staff accounted for 49.3 percent of the total in the awarded enterprises, 6.2 percent higher than the global average.

Of those, females earn around 12 percent less than men. In terms of job promotion, women were promoted only 2 percent less than their male colleagues during the past year.

On average, women can get 131 days of maternity leave at those enterprises and the period is far longer than the 98 days required by the Labor Law of the People's Republic of China.

Meanwhile, male employees can have an average of 14 days of paternity leave.

Around 89 percent of corporations have special protective policies for female employees during their pregnancy and breast-feeding period.

Meanwhile, 89 percent of the companies have promoted the concept of gender equality and 83 percent have installed preferential policies or carried out regular activities to promote women's professional development.

Women are more likely to focus on training in relation to their personal career development than men, besides concerns such as entrepreneurial culture and salaries.

In addition, the development of science and technology fields, for example Artificial Intelligence, can promote gender equality in workplaces as physical strength competition between the two genders may decline as time goes by, said an expert.
