People from Dalian, northeast China's Liaoning Province, prefer purchasing goods from overseas, particularly from Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK), according to a recent report.

The survey was carried out by the Dalian Consumer Guidance Association, the School of Statistics at Dongbei University of Finance and Economics and the Bureau of Commerce of Dalian Jinpu New Area.

It targeted groups including white-collar workers, civil servants and students. Some 2,030 questionnaires have been collected so far.

Dalian Consumers Highly Praise Japanese Imports

Consumers in Dalian prefer purchasing goods from developed countries, with 36.1 percent and 27 percent of them choosing Japanese and ROK imports respectively.

Japanese and ROK clothes, food and skin care products are popular among Dalian consumers, while digital products from the European Union (EU) and the U.S. are well-received.

Men Favor Goods Sold on Cross-border E-commerce Platforms

Data shows that 37.1 percent of Dalian men regard the after-sales services of cross-border e-commerce platforms as important and 47.9 percent of women choose to buy foreign products via purchasing agents.

Men mainly purchase food, clothes and digital products on cross-border e-commerce platforms, while women show more interest in purchasing cosmetics from Japan and ROK.

Quality Becomes Consumer's Primary Consideration

Quality has become consumer's primary consideration, so the report suggested the authorities should strengthen supervision in this regard. It also urged the simplification of customs processes.

Consumers Lack Knowledge of Cross-border E-commerce

The findings revealed that about 38.1 percent of consumers lack knowledge of cross-border e-commerce and most of them can't stand lengthy delivery times.
