China Youth Daily recently conducted a survey among 2,009 respondents to find out their opinions and suggestions on how to properly educate children when they do something wrong.

Out of those polled, some 71.9 percent are married or divorced and have children; 16.9 percent have been married but have not raised kids; and, 11.3 percent have never been married.

According to the results, some 82.4 percent said nowadays kids are naughtier than in previous generations. Most respondents explain this change by saying something went wrong with family education.

Specifically, some 69.5 percent said parents nowadays are spoiling their kids; 56.1 percent said parents have failed to teach their children proper standards; 55.3 percent said it was because parents did not correct their kids' improper behavior in time; and, 10.9 percent thought it is normal for kids to be naughty and wild.

Meanwhile, the respondents suggested different ways to educate naughty kids.

Some 60.9 percent said parents should point out and correct their kids' behavior whenever and wherever they are; 60.3 percent said parents should educate their kids with an objective and calm attitude; and, 38.1 percent said parents should educate their kids in a way that children can accept.

Meanwhile, 34.4 percent said parents should set an example for children, and 32.5 percent said parents should be able to physically punish their kids if they made serious mistakes.

Li Liguo, a professor at Renmin University of China, said: "Naughtiness is a natural instinct in children, but it is acceptable only when our kids' naughty behavior does not disturb others' life."

"Parents have a duty to help their kids establish good behaviors, so do schools and society at large," added Li.
