China Youth Daily conducted a recent survey among 2,008 respondents to find out their opinions on if it is necessary for couples to spend holidays together and create a special atmosphere.

According to the results, some 72.9 percent of those polled often celebrate festivals with their partner and do something special.

Meanwhile, some 80.8 percent of those under 28, and 75.1 percent of those who have been married, tend to express special care to their partner during festivals, according to the figures.

Some 75.4 percent of respondents said conducting a special ceremony is necessary during festivals; 9.1 percent said there was no need to hold special events; and, 15.5 percent said they do not mind if festivals are celebrated in a special way or not.

Meanwhile, interaction analysis indicates that some 77.4 percent of the male respondents would like to enjoy a special atmosphere during festivals, some 3.8 percent higher than their female counterparts.

When it comes to giving presents to their partners to show their feelings during festivals, 52.7 percent of those polled said it cannot be considered as a benchmark to measure a relationship, and 49.8 percent said it makes their relationship fresh.

Some 53.3 percent of those polled said couples should spend according to their economic conditions when celebrating festivals; 29.2 percent said couples should pick some important festivals to share together; and, 24.1 percent said people should celebrate festivals in their own way.

Meanwhile, 37.8 percent said daily communication is more important, and 32.6 percent said special ceremonies are a way to show they value each other.

"A special atmosphere is necessary, but there is no need to spend too much money," said Zhang Xiaoxiao, one of the respondents.

"Not every couple needs to spend festivals together. It will be more interesting and meaningful if they have their special ways to celebrate," said one respondent.
