East China's Jiangsu Province has made intensified efforts to guarantee women's rights and interests in the reform of the rural collective property rights system and made full use of their wisdom and strength in promoting the strategy of rural revitalization.

On July 9, Jiangsu Women's Federation and Jiangsu Commission of Agricultural Affairs jointly issued the Guidelines on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests in the Reform of the Rural Collective Property Rights System, according to which rural women must be recognized as eligible members in rural collective economic organizations and they are entitled to register their names on certificate books and share in the proceeds from rural collective operations.

As one of the nationwide pilot areas, the district of Wuzhong in Suzhou city had already completed the reform of stock ownership in 130 rural cooperatives in 128 villages by the end of this June.

Zhou Yuping, president of Wuzhong Women's Federation, said that local rural women have now completely registered their names on the certificate books of their parents or their husbands.

Jin Yumei, 57, is a beneficiary of the reform of rural collective property rights in the village of Shanglin in Wuzhong.

Like many other villagers, Jin has benefited from the lease of her idle houses to the village committee, who then renovate them into elderly care centers and reap huge profits in the process.

Jin now has an annual income of 38,000 yuan from the rental of her spare houses, has received 1,200 yuan in the form of social security payment per month, and has shared in the proceeds from other rural collective operations.

The sub-district of Moling in Nanjing, capital city of Jiangsu Province, is another piloted area in the reform of the rural collective property rights system. Its 25 villages have all completed their reform and allowed female residents to enjoy equal rights with men when it comes to revenues from their collective economic organizations.

Local officials said that stock ownership in rural collective economic organizations is immune to the changes of the number of family members and the movement of their living places.

So far, the registration information has been preserved in local archives for future reference in the protection of rural women's rights and interests in their collective properties.
