The Publicity Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and Women Voice App featured a brochure to raise public awareness on protecting cyber security ahead of this year's China Cybersecurity Week, which falls on September 17.

The seven-day campaign will comprise of an opening ceremony, six major events, and six themed one-day activities, according to officials.

At the same time, organizers will hold a forum and an expo with a large-scale exhibition area bigger than in any previous year.

As part of the announcement, organizers issued a brochure providing tips for women on how to further understand cyber security and protect themselves online.

Let's take a look at some of the advice included in the handout.

Distinguish Online Info, Dispell Rumors

In the era of mobile internet, some people publish false information or inflammatory statements in order to gain attention, which can cause problems and seriously jeopardizes political security and social stability.

Since female netizens can be more sensitive and emotional, they should rationally distinguish online information and dispel online rumors.

Report Malicious Information

Online information is numerous and complicated since it can contain violent and pornographic content which contaminate the network environment. This may also have a negative impact on the physical and mental health of women and children.

As mothers, women should resolutely fight against negative information on the internet and better protect their children to surf the web in a healthy manner.

Be Aware of 'Sharenting'

Many mothers sometimes naively post pictures or blogs about their offspring online and share the ins-and-outs of raising their children on public platforms. Such behavior can reveal specific whereabouts and private information that may attract criminals and put children in danger.

Thus, mothers must raise their awareness on protecting their children's safety and always be cautious.

Pay Attention to Information Leakage

To make an online post of a photo and location is considered part of the daily routine for numerous women. But such actions may threaten national security.

The stealing or leaking of State secrets endangers national security. Therefore, all women should abide by the law by not sending texts, pictures, and videos that could jeopardize national security, and report such posts accordingly, in a timely manner.

Don't Be Deceived by 'Daigou'

The phenomenon of daigou, or overseas personal shoppers, has become more and more popular in China with the development of the internet.

Some lawbreakers claim to be overseas daigou and tempt female consumers to purchase products from them at a low price. Then, they refuse to send the goods and ask for various miscellaneous charges. Eventually, they disappear.

Thus, when buying goods from overseas, women should be alert and choose to use official channels.

Don't Fall for Online Dating Scams

It is common to see that some women are easily disarmed by criminals' sweet talking words sent via online dating platforms. This may lead to tragic encounters and falling victim to fraud on the basis of the false relationships.

Thus women should avoid being convinced by the rhetoric of online criminals, and think twice before transferring money to a strangers' account.

The world is more wonderful because of the internet; and the internet is full of charm because of people's participation.

In the current era, however, cyber-security issues should never be ignored. Women must take the initiative to protect their online security and safeguard their legitimate rights and interests.
