In order to better protect and guarantee residents' rights, officials from Quanzhou, southeast China's Fujian Province, provided free legal aid to 1,754 women and 694 juveniles between January and August this year.

First, the city has formed a legal-aid system, which can provide different ways for women and children to ask for help. The system encompasses service desks, a hotline and internet-based methods.

In this way, officials have continuously improved the legal-service platforms and systems.

Meanwhile, the measures have created a convenient and effective legal-aid-service circle for women and children.

Now, there are 13 legal-aid centers at county and city level in Quanzhou, 163 legal-aid sites in villages and townships; 131 service sites of women's federations, trade unions and disabled persons' federations; as well as, 2,510 village contact sites, allowing women and children get quick and easy legal aid services.

Moreover, the system has also provided a more diversified and convenient way for those targeted to consult and apply for legal aid by connecting the WeChat social media accounts of local women's federations.

The coordinated platforms can assign lawyers to provide professional services for women and children. Issues in the scope of aid include marriage, family, labor security, food and medicine.

Lastly, the local government has been continuously improving legal-aid services for women and children.

It has established the first voluntary lawyers team, which includes 446 legal professionals with experiences of more than three years, along with 90 volunteers specialized in dealing with juvenile delinquents.

When assigning lawyers, legal-aid officials can select those who are relevant since they are familiar with juveniles' characters. Meanwhile, a specifically-appointed lawyers-aid model has been used for women.
