Officials in the city of Shenyang in northeast China's Liaoning Province have recently made intensified efforts to guarantee local women's equal rights to obtain employment.

Shenyang Women's Federation and the municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau organized an inspection tour to three areas to ensure such employment rights.

Members of the group investigated local human resources and social security centers and collected relevant information on recruitment advertisements.

They also invited officials from relevant departments such as mediation and conciliation service centers, talent centers, recruitment agencies and justice bureaus, and employers from various fields, to attend a symposium to find out more about their processes in promoting equal employment opportunities.

Local areas not visited by the investigators also carried out self-assessments according to the same procedures.

To concretely implement laws and regulations concerning equal employment opportunities for women, Shenyang holds nearly 1,000 recruitment events and entrepreneurial activities each year and distribute over 400,000 vacancies.

A total of 87,000 women found new jobs in 2017, accounting for 52.69 percent of all employees, according to a latest report.

A beneficial employment situation for women is conducive to the stability of the city. Meanwhile, some disadvantageous factors for female employees still exist.

For example, some women with higher education still work at the entry level positions; laid-off female workers face lower treatment after re-employment; and, the national two-child policy presents a new challenge to female employees.

Officials said they would further implement relevant laws and regulations and policies about equal employment opportunities for women and strengthen the popularization of women's rights and interests so as to provide convenient services for them.

The investigation has played a significant role in protecting women's legal employment rights and labor rights, normalizing employers' management system and promoting the formation of a fair employment environment, said officials.
