Officials in the Wenjiang District of Chengdu, southwest China's Sichuan Province, have promoted the construction of Children's Home centers in the city since 2013 to better cater for the demands of local families.

According to a recent profile, the construction rate of Children's Homes in Wenjiang is among the highest in the country, and the facilities have been praised by local children, many of whom consider them as their second home.

The local government has accumulated relevant experience in construction based on children's needs, and according to the principles of providing publically beneficial services.

In Tianfu Community of Wenjiang, many residents cannot pick up their children on time from school. What’s more, quite a number of parents cannot help their children with their studies.

After learning about the situation, the Children's Home in Tianfu Community organized a special class divided by age, with volunteers who pick up children after class.

To meet the demands of the so-called "left-behind" children in Minjiang Village of Shouan Township, the local Children's Home center established a platform for them to communicate with their parents via video chat.

Moreover, the center also carried out activities under the banner Helping Mothers Came Back Home. These activities help local women find flexible employment, thus solving the problem of left behind children from the root cause.

During the construction process, women's federation of Wenjiang has followed the idea of providing children with professional services.

Moreover, the local women's federation also encourages Children's Home Centers to try out different development models.

At present, the main operation mode of the Children's Home Centers is under government's purchase, or under the community social services, as well as community management.

Moreover, the women's federation of Wenjiang has created many characteristic projects aimed at parents' demand for family education, including flower arrangement, baking and parent-child book reading activities.

With the development and incubation of related projects, female volunteers have become more positive about engaging in community activities.
