Several places in central China's Hubei Province have introduced favorable policies and measures to help local couples with two children better cope with challenges and problems from home and the workplace when raising their children.

According to a guideline, governmental departments in the district of Xiangzhou in Xiangyang City are required to provide local couples with discounted reproductive services, free medical check-ups and pills against birth defects, and allowance to reduce their financial burden from hospital deliveries.

Local women are entitled to a 30-day maternity leave, plus 128 days paid leave as specified in national and provincial laws, when they have a natural delivery. Meanwhile, their husbands are entitled to 30 days parental leave on the occasion.

For those women who have undergone cesarean sections, they receive an additional 15 days paid leave on the basis of a 158-day maternal leave.

The guideline also ruled that women are entitled to another 15 days parental leave when they have more than one child at a time.

In addition, employers are forbidden from refusing to pay women employees wages and bonuses or promoting them into higher positions in the workplace during their maternity leave.

State-run kindergartens in Xiangzhou will provide every family with at least two children with a 30 percent discount off tuition fees in accordance with China's family-planning policies. Moreover, an allowance of 1,000 yuan will be granted each year to each child from local registered poverty-hit families when they have a least one child to raise and have to send them to preschool institutes.

What's more, female employees shall be able to temporarily leave their workplaces for at least two hours every day to breastfeed their babies when their maternity leave comes to an end.

It should be noted that the city of Xianning and the district of Xiaonan in Xiaogan City have begun to implement similar policies and measures.
