Chongqing Municipal Statistic Bureau released yesterday the 2009 Chongqing Women and Children Development (planning) Monitoring Report.

The report shows that the living conditions of women and children in Chongqing have improved and that infant mortality has appreciably declined. Also that numbers of women cadres have grown; those at department level now stand at 68 -- 30% more than that in 2008.

Details of the report reveal that there are 5,895 female cadres in Chongqing at county level, 1.19 million fewer than men; that illiteracy among young and middle-aged women has been basically eliminated; and that 90% of six-month-old infants are breastfed. Also, however, that less than 1% of new couples take advantage of free pre-marital health check-ups and that 1,891 women have been infected with HIV/AIDS.
