China's Sixth National Women Congress took place in Beijing from September 1 to 6, 1988. It saw a grand gathering of 1,200 Chinese women of all ethnicities and from all walks.

Zhao Ziyang, Yang Shangkun, Li Peng and Deng Yingchao attended the opening ceremony. Yang Shangkun on behalf of the CPC Central Committee addressed the congress. Kang Keqing, commissioned by Zhang Guoying, delivered the work report entitled, Make Contributions to the Deepening of Reform and Revitalization of China.

The congress revised the Constitution of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), approved the resolution on the ACWF emblem and elected the new Executive Committee members Kang Keqing as Honorary President, Chen Muhua as President, Zhang Guoying, Huang Qizao, Lin Liyun, Ngapoi • Caidan Zhuoga (Tibetan), Mnyinuer•Hasimu (Uygur), Hao Zhichun, Zhang Suwo, Lu Leshan, Nie Li and Wei Yu as Vice-Presidents.
