Leaders from the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and women's development experts attended a symposium held in Beijing on October 22, 2013, to discuss a newly published book on the history of the women's movement in China in the 20th century.



The book --- History of the Women's Movement in China in the 20th Century --- details women's movements in China in the last century under the leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and summarizes the experiences drawn from the period to provide direction for Chinese women's development under the new circumstances.

Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the 12th National People's Congress and ACWF President Shen Yueyue made a speech in which she pointed out the important role that the book plays in guiding women's federation staff across the country in learning from the past and creating a brighter future. She said that she hoped they would use history as a driving force to contribute to the rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.

As the chief editor for the book, former ACWF President and Director of the China National Committee for the Wellbeing of the Youth Gu Xiulian introduced the main contents of the book, which are mainly a record of the events and processes by which Chinese women explored liberation and development throughout the 20th century.



The book is ACWF's first main project sponsored by the National Social Sciences Fund, and published by the China Women's Publishing House.



Vice President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF Zhen Yan, former ACWF Vice President Huang Qingyi, ACWF Honorary President and Honorary Director of the Chinese Women's Research Society (CWRS) Peng Peiyun and Vice Director of the State Archives Administration Li Heping were also in attendance at the event on the day.
