A work conference for the project, "Study on the Values of Gender Equality and Discussion of Related Theories", supported by the National Social Science Foundation of China, was held in Beijing on February 19, 2014.
Tan Lin, member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) gave a keynote speech at the conference. Xiao Yang, vice-director of the Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC), and 14 other members of the project team attended the event.
Tan, who also serves as director of the WSIC, affirmed the achievements of the project that have been made at present and also outlined a work plan for the next stage.
Tan advised the need to:
-Strengthen theoretical research. It is of great importance to carry out theory-based research on the values of gender equality, which is a further interpretation of the Marxist views on women.
-Clarify the concept of the values of gender equality and their relationship with the core values of Chinese socialism, as well as publicity principles. Whilst at the same time, the research team should also make further efforts to study the values in social reality and current legal policies that are not conducive to women's development and gender equality.
Tan also put forward a specific guidance to the studies of sub-topics. She advised to take advantage of China Women's News, Collection of Women's Studies and the WSIC website (www.wsic.ac.cn), as well as other media, to publicize the values of gender equality.
