Abstract:
The Prosperity and Decline of Prostitutes in the Republic of China tells the reader that prostitute is not an isolated social culture; and it is closely connected with the political and economic system in society, the institution of marriage, morals or ethics, and all forms of a constrained social order. Early in the Republic of China, prostitutes and other systems were quite different from the ones under the traditional small-scale peasant economy. With the modernization of society, such things as the classifications of prostitutes, their status, and the way a prostitute receives the client , and the whorehouse’ operations, are gradually changing.
