In China's rural areas, significant gaps in access to economic resources, employment opportunities, economic income and participation in family decision-making still exist between rural women and men. This study shows that the main influencing factors on gender differences in economic status include traditional cultural concepts, and gender division of labor and human capital. Therefore,to narrow the gap in economic development and share the fruits of social development between rural women and men, laws and policies to protect women's rights should be improved and the equalization of public services between urban and rural areas have to be promoted.
