Subject: Women and Folk Songs:Bicultural Symbolism in the Novels of Yemei
Author: LI Li
Keyword: women's writing, folk songs
Newspapers published: Journal of China Women's University
Issue No. original: 2014(2)
Abstract:
Among minority group women writers,Yemei observes in a unique way and writes about Tujia women. She set the template for the fortune of the women characters in the national culture, and also sang a variety of songs to interpret it.The ballads highlighted personality, while personality enriched the ballads.Women and folk songs, which constitute bicultural symbols of character and folklore through a code, link the fate of the characters tightly to the national culture, and produce a distinctively styled aesthetic appeal. It's evident that the writer knows well about Tujia,is concerned about and eagerly inherits Tujia culture,so the cultural values of her works attract more attention.
