To determine the current situation of metaphoric English competence of English majors and to explore the relationships between their metaphoric competence and English proficiency, a metaphoric English competence test paper was completed by juniors of the Foreign Languages Department of China Women's University, and interviews on their metaphoric teaching and learning was carried out with some students. Through SPSS correlation analysis of the scores of their test papers and their TEM4 scores, it was found there was a positive correlation between students' metaphoric competence and their English proficiency, and English majors' metaphoric competence was at the low level. To educate English majors' in metaphoric competence and to improve their English proficiency, attention should be paid to cultural input and explanation of metaphoric expressions.
