A project report on China's rural left-behind women, whose husbands have left their villages to work in bigger cities, was released at a conference on rural women and social management policy in Beijing on October 18, 2012.

The project was jointly launched by the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) and the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in a bid to offer reference to new policies on the rural left-behind women issue and practical advice on the improvement of their situations, according to Tan Lin, director of the Women's Studies Institute of China (WSIC), who introduced the background of the research project at the conference.

The research group summarized their key findings as related to the overall situation of the rural left-behind women, their problems and needs, and the counter measures that can be taken to improve their lives.

The other attendees from the ACWF, UNICEF, and governmental and non-governmental organizations offered their suggestions on solving the problems commonly faced by the women. Attendees from the regional women's federations also introduced their efforts in the matter.
