Summary: This book comprises theses compiled from the 2006 China Women’s Research Society Annual Meeting under the theme Building a New Socialist Countryside and Gender Equality. The issue of rural women is important because it relates closely to the promotion of equal and harmonious gender relations throughout the building of a new socialist countryside. Theoretically, this book explores the correlation between gender equality and promoting rural women’s development during the course of building a new socialist countryside. It tries to find ways applicable to China of stepping up Chinese rural women’s development in a bid to achieve gender equality in the countryside.
