Title: Report: Most Japanese Say Gender Inequality Still Exists
Keyword: eport, Gender Inequality, Still, Exist, Japan
Most people in Japan think they are living in a country with a notable gender bias and lack of a proper gender equality mechanism, according to the latest report by Tokyo-based researchers.

According to the results of an online survey, some 63.6 percent of the respondents said gender inequality exists in Japan. Only 11 percent of them said they think Japan has a good gender equality environment.

Meanwhile, based on different genders of respondents, 69.9 percent of women said they felt a pressure from gender inequality, 12.6 percent higher than their male counterparts.

In Japan, the gap in the role that men and women play in terms of their work and family is obvious, according to the statistics.

In fact, the Japanese government has been implementing its Law of Equal Opportunity for Employment of Men and Women since 1986.

In 2010, Japanese government made a plan to promote gender equality across the country so that the proportion of female leaders in various domains should increase to over 30 percent by 2020.

"However, 30 years have passed by, and women's status has not fundamentally improved," said Yoji Yamada, a famous director in Japan.

Furthermore, gender equality in Japan exists in the royal family and its congress.

For example, female royal members in Japan have no rights to inherit the throne or attend the enthronement ceremony of the new emperor.

In addition, a congresswoman in Japan faced an unfavorable public environment last year after she announced her pregnancy on social media.

Gender discrimination and sexual harassment still exist in Japan, too, according to media commentators. To establish a society where men and women have equal rights, Japan still has a long way to go, they say.
