This book introduces major contemporary theoretical perspectives, methods and tools for promoting women's development.

It comprises seven chapters. Chapter one gives an overview of women's studies theory, with detailed elaborations on the concepts of free feminism, radical feminism, Marxist feminism, socialist feminism and cultural feminism.

Chapter two focuses on the theory of women and development. It introduces the concept, origins and main viewpoints and also practical women and development policies.

Chapter three, on theories of gender and development, introduces the concept of gender, the growth of gender and development theory, theoretical perspectives on this issue, and its gender plan.

Chapter four takes gender and participatory development as its theme. It introduces the origins, concept and gender implications of the participatory development theory, and the scope of participatory development and its gender implications.

Chapter five introduces gender analysis methods and tools, as regards framework and content, measures and tools.

The subject of chapter six is gender and development practice, including the concept of development intervention, the gender integration in project cycle, gender-sensitive participatory project planning, monitoring and evaluation, and cases of gender and development practice.

Chapter seven concludes with the organization and management of gender and development. It introduces the concept of social organization and management and also gender and development issues as related to the organization and institutionalization of gender, raising NGOs as a case in point.
