Major Issues in Hindering the Development of Rural Women: Investigation of Villages in Yangdong County, Guangdong Province

This paper discusses major issues that hinder the development of rural women in the J village of Yangdong County, Guangdong Province. Based on in-depth interviews with village households, the author recognizes that there women as a vulnerable group encounter issues in production, household burden, land rights, birth practice, and health care. These issues may also exist in other places as they reflect certain common tendencies in the movement of building new socialist countryside. The paper at the end proposes ways to address these issues.
