The Identity of Domestic Workers and Their Political Union Rights--A Case Study of a Domestic Workers' Union in Xi'an

The purpose of this paper is to analyze a project of working with these women workers to overcome marginalization, feminization of domestic services and occupational segregation and to establish a domestic workers union in Xi'an. This project was meant to make use of international and local resources to help domestic women workers to organize and to through their awareness of gender, their political and labor rights. It resulted in mobilizing those women working separately in different families to come together exercise their right to unionization. Through this project these women set up China's first domestic women workers' trade union.
