This project found that China’s efforts to promote gender equality in the social economic and political aspects is fruitful. Even in poor areas, implementation of the basic national policy of gender equality have witnessed significant progress in the village self-government elections, grassroots women's organizations, community participation, training, family planning, prevention of domestic violence, education and health. However, the situation of gender inequality in China's poor rural areas is still very prominent. There are complex internal relations between gender inequality and poverty. This phenomenon constitutes an important aspect of gender inequality in the Chinese society today.
