The study found that although microfinance has brought economic benefits to the poor areas, compared with the male population, female population is still in comparative poverty. This study pointed out that nearly a decade of poverty alleviation through microfinance in China have weakness in women empowerment and building supportive environment, which will be in large part impede the ultimate goal of poverty reduction. In the process of building a socialist new countryside, achieving gender equality is one of the key and urgent tasks for poverty alleviation.
